Slot puts Nuno Espírito Santo’s Forest in the hunt for Premier League title
Liverpool manager recalls defeat on matchday 4, the only one so far, and praises the Portuguese manager’s team, which is just six points behind
After a weekend dedicated to the FA Cup , the Premier League returns in midweek for matchday 21 and Liverpool head to Nottingham Forest , with the teams separated by just the only team to have beaten Arne Slot’s side this season, on matchday four, and that too at Anfield.
As is his style, coach Arne Slot did not hold back in praising his opponent.
“I’ve always said that you can assess the table better halfway through the season. They’re up there, so they’re definitely a team that competes with us and the others. If you look at the way they play and their results, it’s deserved. It’s going to be a very difficult challenge for us,” he began by saying, before talking about the style of play of Nuno Espírito Santo’s team: “They have a team that works hard without the ball and also knows how to hold the ball. Chris Wood is a good example of that. They’ve scored and threatened a lot on the counterattack, but they also have quality when they want to play with the ball. Nuno has done a great job of implementing a style of play that suits the players.”
Slot spoke about the team’s only league defeat: “They’ve shown their quality, it’s not something you expect Liverpool to lose a home game. For us, losing that day was hard to take. Now, looking back and seeing where they are in the league, it’s not as surprising a result as it seemed at the time. They had a good game plan and I hope their full-backs, who have been playing so well, will be in the starting line-up tomorrow.”
