Stuttgart beats Slovan Bratislava and remains alive in the Champions League
Leweling (twice) and Rieder score the German goals; Metsoko scores
Stuttgart wins and stays alive
Stuttgart did what was expected of them and beat already eliminated Slovan Bratislava 3-1 on Tuesday at the National Stadium in Bratislava, Slovakia. Leweling (twice) and Rieder scored the goals for the visitors. Metsoko pulled one back.
The duel was settled in the first half, when Leweling showed opportunism by appearing twice free in the area to push the ball into the net defended by Takác. At the end of the second half, a beautiful goal by Metsoko seemed like it would bring the match to a close, but less than two minutes later Rieder put a damper on the reaction and closed the score.
Table and agenda
With the victory, Stuttgart gained five positions and jumped to 21st, but it is important to note that nine more games will be played on Wednesday. The Germans now have 10 points. Next Wednesday, Stuttgart hosts PSG.
Eliminated, Slovan Bratislava will also say goodbye to the competition next Wednesday and at the same time, against Bayern Munich, in Germany.
