Transfer Market: Leverkusen advance for Man. City ‘gem’
German champions are interested in signing James McAtee, considered one of the Citizens’ greatest prospects
Bayer Leverkusen are interested in signing one of Manchester City ‘s top prospects : James McAtee. According to Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specializing in the transfer market, the German champions have already started talks with the Citizens and intend to acquire the 18-year-old midfielder on loan, with an option to buy.
The same source states that Xabi Alonso, coach of the pharmacists, is appreciative of the English player’s qualities and sees him as a good replacement for Martin Terrier , who is injured.
On the other hand, City and Pep Guardiola are reluctant to let him go as they think McAtee could become an outright starter. The Spanish coach has shown, on several occasions, that he is a fan of the midfielder and has not hidden his desire to keep him: “He is an excellent football player and a charming guy. He has very similar qualities to Phil [Foden] . I hope we can keep James for many years to come.”
After two consecutive loans to Sheffield United , McAtee has 14 appearances and five goals with the Citizens in the first half of the season.
