Transfer Market: Lyon sacks coach Pierre Sage
Paulo Fonseca has been named as the main candidate for the position
It’s official: Pierre Sage is no longer the coach of Lyon . The Ligue 1 club announced this Tuesday the departure of the coach, as well as his team, made up of Jamal Alioui, Rui Lemos, Denis Valour and Rémy Vercoutre.
“This sporting decision, in the current context of the 2024/2025 season, does not call into question the formidable work carried out at the start of 2024, for which Lyon will always be grateful to Pierre Sage and his team,” read the club’s statement.
On the official website, the French club also talks about a “decision to be taken in the next few days”, at a time when Paulo Fonseca has been identified as a strong candidate to take on the role.
According to Fabrizio Romano, a specialist in market matters, the 51-year-old Portuguese coach and Lyon have already reached a verbal agreement for the coach’s return to France, where he previously coached Lille.
