Udinese goalkeeper investigated for sports manipulation
Maduka Okoye was shown a yellow card against Lazio on 11 March 2024 for wasting time
Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is being investigated for sports manipulation, according to Messaggero Veneto and later confirmed by Maurizio Conti, the Nigerian international’s lawyer.
The goalkeeper was involved in a time-wasting incident in the 64th minute that earned him a yellow card in the game against Lazio on March 11, 2024, at the Stadio Olimpico. In that match, there was an anomalous flow of bets, something that is being investigated by the Udinese Public Prosecutor’s Office .
The owner of a pizzeria that is often frequented by Udinese players and managers is also under investigation and is being accused of fraud.
Maduka Okoye risks being banned from all competitions for up to four years.
“My client is calm,” said the athlete’s lawyer.
This season, Maduka Okoye has played 15 games for Udinese . He is currently injured.
