Arteta disappointed with the market: “We had an intention…”
Arsenal manager previews clash with Newcastle
Arsenal did not make any signings in the winter market and Mikel Arteta did not hide his disappointment.
“We had a clear intention, to explore opportunities that would allow us to improve the squad with players who could make an impact. We didn’t manage to do that. So we are disappointed, but we are aware that we only want to bring in certain types of players and we have to be disciplined. We haven’t been able to do that for a few reasons. It’s the reality, we have the players we have, we’ve never had a squad of 35, 40, 45 players. Other clubs have, but not us. We have to evolve and have more players from the academy and the ones who are here have to be fit for longer”, he began by analyzing, speaking about the issue of the attack.
«Leandro Trossardcan play in that position,Raheem Sterlingplayed in that position, Ethan Nwaneri I think can play in that position,Gabriel Martinellican play there, so we’ll see how each one is, the moment, the opponent. But we’ll have to try something different,” he said.
“We have spoken very openly about our intention to improve the squad if we have the capacity to do so. More importantly, we want to continue to improve the team,” he added.
On Wednesday, theArsenalfaces theNewcastle, in the second leg of the English League Cup. The Magpies are in advantage (2-0).
“The next game is a final. It’s the closest we’ve been to a final. We’re going to give it our all. The win against Manchester City gave us a boost,” he said.
