Espanyol finishes well and beats Real Madrid in the Spanish Championship

WHO DOESN’T DO IT…

Real Madrid visited Espanyol and were defeated 1-0 this Saturday in a match for the 22nd round of the Spanish Championship. Carlo Ancelotti’s team pressed for most of the game, but were stopped by the home team’s organized defense, which closed well and did not give them any space. When Vini Jr scored a beautiful goal with a well-placed shot, the referee disallowed it due to Mbappé’s foul outside the play. In the 40th minute of the second half, Carlos Romero took advantage of a good counterattack and scored the winning goal.

REAL STILL LEADER

Despite the defeat, Real Madrid remain top of LaLiga and will remain so until the next round. The Merengue team is on 49 points at the top, compared to 48 for second-placed Atlético de Madrid. Barcelona are third on 42 and face Alavés this Sunday. Espanyol move out of the relegation zone with this victory, now occupying 17th place with 23 points. In the next round, Real host Atlético at the Santiago Bernabéu, while Espanyol visit Real Sociedad.
