Javier Tebas accuses ‘citizens’ of disrupting the European football market and illegally gaining competitiveness through financial subsidies from outside the European Union provided by the United Arab Emirates

LaLiga files complaint against Manchester City with the European Union

Javier Tebas has announced that LaLiga has moved forward with a complaint to the European Commission against Manchester City in 2023 . The Spanish leader accused the citizens of violating the Competition Law by benefiting from subsidies provided by states outside the European Union (United Arab Emirates) to gain an advantage and consequently disrupt the European Union’s internal market.

Tebas emphasizes that, thanks to the connection with the Middle East, the citizens have much better conditions than the competition and what the market allows to hire top players and coaches, guarantee better and greater advertising revenues and consequently excel on the field.

“We report to the European Union with facts and figures. It is an English team that is not part of the European Union, but has commercial activities in Europe. All they do is think about how they can get around the rules,” explained Tebas at the Business of Football Summit, which is taking place in London.

While Tebas accuses the Citizens of gaining competitiveness and weakening opponents illegally, the Manchester team rejects the accusations and claims that the LaLiga president has a previous history of attacking the club.

It should be remembered that Manchester City is owned by the Abu Dhabi United Group, which belongs to the Abu Dhabi royal family.
