Manchester City could receive a million-dollar compensation payment from the Premier League

Manchester City have won the Premier League in court again. The case has nothing to do with the so-called Trial of the Century, where the citizens are being tried for 130 financial offences, in an accusation also made by the Premier League.

According to The Times , these are the famous APT ( Associated Party Transactions ), a rule that aimed to prevent clubs like Manchester City or Newcastle from profiting from sponsorship contracts linked to their owners.

The new rules on sponsorship deals were agreed in early 2014 by the minimum 14 clubs required – two-thirds of those voting – and are designed to keep the Premier League competitive .

The court earlier in October ruled through an independent panel that the Premier League had blocked sponsorship deals unlawfully. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters argued that the court had in effect “upheld” the APT rules and found only “certain elements that needed to be changed”.

Meanwhile, the court has once again ruled in favor of Manchester City , who accused the Premier League of “lying” to the rest of the clubs. This decision could have serious consequences for the Premier League, which may have to cover the entire costs of the trial – around 24 million euros. In addition, the Citizens can claim millions in compensation from the Premier League.
