New headache for Lisandro Martínez (and Ruben Amorim)
Argentine centre-back injured in Manchester United’s last game
Lisandro Martinez was injured and in tears after Manchester United ‘s home defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday. After a challenge for the ball with Ismaila Sarr , the Argentine, who has been a key player for Ruben Amorim, fell and immediately grabbed his left knee, a sign of the bad news that was to come.
And this Monday, the Argentines from Tyc Sports reported that Martínez ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, which will keep him out of action for the rest of this season.
The 27-year-old is once again plagued by physical problems – this is his first injury of the season, but in 2023/24 he has suffered three, one of them to his right knee. Amorim had been using Martínez as a left-back, where the player made a good contribution due to his passing ability. He had played 35 times for the Red Devils this season, and only appeared as a substitute on two of them.
Thus, the central defenders available to Ruben Amorim are Harry Maguire , Leny Yoro and De Ligt . Noussair Mazraoui , if necessary, can also be adapted to the central position, a solution that Amorim could resort to, given the scarcity of options in this position.
