Real Sociedad beats Midtjylland and moves closer to the round of 16
Basques beat Midtjylland 2-1 in the first leg of the playoff
Real Sociedad went to Denmark to beat Midtjylland 2-1 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16 play-off .
In a match in which all the goals came in the first 45 minutes, Real Sociedad started better and took the lead after just 11 minutes, through a penalty, converted by Brais Méndez.
The Basques continued pressing and reached the second after half an hour of play. After scoring, Brais Méndez served Takefusa Kubo , who scored a great left-footed goal, leaving Lossi with no chance (31′).
The home team – which had Portuguese Dani Silva in the starting line-up – responded shortly after and Adam Buksa reduced the deficit (38′).
However, this was the best the Danes could do. In the second half, no goals were recorded and when the final whistle blew, the scoreboard showed 2-1 in favor of Real Sociedad .
With the first part of the tie now complete, the second leg is scheduled for the 20th, at the Anoeta stadium, in San Sebastián.
