‘The whole game was chaos’: Everton-Liverpool chaos

Everton manager David Moyes has said the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, which ended in a 2-2 draw between the Toffees and Liverpool , had a “fitting ending”, with James Tarkowski restoring justice to the scoreline in the 90+8′.

“It was extremely important to finish in the best possible way in our stadium. The support tonight was incredible, it was fantastic and I think it was fitting that we got that result. He told the players it was great that the fans could go home satisfied. We didn’t win, which was disappointing, but we managed to get a draw in a game that didn’t seem to be in our favour”, began the coach, adding: “It would have been difficult to come here if we had lost 1-2 and talk. But the way the audience stayed until the end was a magical moment.”

Regarding the chaos caused by Tarkowski’s goal — fans invaded the pitch, Abdoulaye Doucouré celebrated in front of the Liverpool fans and had a disagreement with Curtis Jones, which led to the expulsion of both, as well as Arne Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff —, he said that «the whole game was chaos».

“I could tell you what happened after the game, but the truth is that we shouldn’t comment on that. What I know is that Doucouré received a yellow card, which resulted in a red, which leaves me disappointed, as we are short of players. The tension was present throughout the night, everything was boiling, it was exciting, there was an incredible atmosphere in the stadium,” he added.

It should be noted that this was the last Merseyside derby to be played at Goodison Park, as at the end of the season Everton would leave the stadium that opened in 1892, moving to the new Bramley-Moore Dock.
