Transfer Market: Roma advances for… Ancelotti
Giallorossi owners Friedkins are trying to convince the Italian coach, similar to what they did with Mourinho in 2021
What if next summer’s big transfer was a coach? If it were up to Roma , it would certainly be. According to Spanish newspaper AS, the Italian club want to sign Carlo Ancelotti to lead the Roma squad next season.
Going through a difficult season, with three different coaches (De Rossi, Juric and Ranieri) and far from the fight for the UEFA Champions League places , Roma are looking for a new coach for next season and, as they did in 2021 with José Mourinho, the club want a renowned coach to relaunch the project. Carlo Ancelotti is the chosen one.
The same source says that the Friedkins, owners of the Romans, are trying to convince him personally. The proposal is ambitious in every sense, both financially and sportingly: a real all-in to consolidate the team in the European elite.
The Giallorossi are hoping to win over the Madrid coach by appealing to his strong ties to the club, where he shone as a player between 1979 and 1987. Ancelotti has never hidden his affection for Roma and the city, and in December he left the door ajar, although he made it clear that his priority is Real Madrid : “There’s a lot of talk about that [Roma], but I’m happy here and I’m working to stay as long as possible. Ranieri is a friend and he’s doing very well, I’m happy. I have a great relationship with Roma, with very good memories, but we have to put words into action. At the moment, I’m happy here and I’m not thinking about my future.”
Roma , however, have already made contact and will continue to try , aware that they will only have a chance if Florentino Pérez decides to end his relationship with Ancelotti before the end of his contract. Even so, the Giallorossi are clear about their dream. And that dream is to bring Ancelotti back to the Olimpico.
