Benfica centre-back on Lionel Scaloni’s list for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil
Lionel Scaloni announced, this Sunday, the list of 33 pre-selection players for the March games of the Argentina national team, against Uruguay (on the 21st, in Montevideo) and Brazil (on the 26th, at El Monumental, in Buenos Aires), both of which are part of the Conmebol qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, to be played in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
On a list that will be reduced closer to the training camp date is Nicolás Otamendi , central defender for Benfica, as well as other established players such as Lionel Messi , Paulo Dybala , Lautaro Martínez and Enzo Fernández . Even so, the Argentine coach reserved some surprises, such as Claudio Echeverri (player for Manchester City ), Francisco Ortega (left back for Olympiakos ) and Benjamín Domínguez and Santiago Castro, players for Italian side Bologna .
