Barcelona beats Real Sociedade and leads La Liga

Very leader

Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 4-0 on Sunday and are now leaders of the Spanish Championship. The Catalan team had their lives made easier when Elustondo was sent off in the 16th minute for a foul on Lewandowski, as the last man. The goals were scored by Gerard Martín, Casadó, Araújo and Lewandowski.

The classification

The victory leaves Barcelona top of La Liga with 57 points, one more than Atlético de Madrid, who are in second place. Real Madrid (3rd), defeated on Saturday, are three points behind Barça, who still have the upper hand on tiebreakers. In other words, Barcelona have a game to spare against Real.

The 90 minutes

Real Sociedad were playing evenly until Elustondo was sent off in the 16th minute of the first half. The defender was the last man and grabbed Lewandowski, who was going one-on-one. With an extra man, Barcelona turned the game into an attack against defense. They crushed Real Sociedad and started to score goals with ease. Gerard Martín scored the first goal with a beautiful shot. The second goal was scored by Casadó, who deflected a shot from Dani Olmo. Both goals were scored in the first half.

The second half continued with Barça exchanging passes in the attacking half and cornering Real Sociedad, who only once came close to the Barça goal. The third goal came from a corner. Raphinha took a closed shot, Lewa headed it, the goalkeeper saved it and Araújo scored on the rebound. The fourth goal also had Araújo’s presence. The defender shot and Lewandowski deflected it halfway to close the score.
