Bernardo Silva gives a hint about the future: «I hope it doesn’t stop here…»

It was in 2017 that Bernardo Silva swapped Monaco for Manchester City , in exchange for 50 million euros. Seven and a half years later, the Portuguese international is already one of the greatest figures in the history of the Citizens , having won everything there was to win with the Ettihad club.

In an interview with the club’s media, the midfielder recalled his career at the club… even before it started. In 2016/17, the English team met the Monegasques in the UEFA Champions League , Bernardo impressed Guardiola and the rest is history…

“It was a great game. We lost 5-3, then we beat you in Monaco and that’s when they decided that since they couldn’t beat me, they had to buy me,” said the Portuguese, smiling.

“After that game I thought I had to go to the Premier League . It’s different. The way the fans feel the game is special,” he added, revealing what Guardiola told him at the time: “He congratulated me after we won the first game. After the second game, he was probably too upset to come and talk to me. I remember him saying he was impressed with me. The next day, my agent called me and said that Man. City might try to sign me.”

First season in Manchester

In his debut season in Manchester, Bernardo Silva made 53 appearances in a memorable season for the English team. In February 2018, he won the first of many titles wearing the sky blue jersey: the League Cup .

«This team was very young and eager to win titles. Every victory, every trophy, every moment of that season was very important and this was the beginning. It was our first title together, of many, and it was special», he recalled.

“I remember back then, in January, people saying we’ve already won the league, but until it’s done, it’s not done. We have a lot of examples of teams losing leads and we didn’t want that to happen to us,” added Bernardo Silva, who scored nine goals and provided 10 assists that season.

Six Premier Leagues, four League Cups, three Super Cups, two FA Cups, a Club World Cup and a UEFA Champions League later, Bernardo Silva admitted he didn’t expect to win so many trophies… but he hopes it doesn’t end there.

“I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to win so many trophies. I wanted to win the Premier League , the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, but I never thought that in seven years I would win six championships. The journey has been and continues to be incredible. I hope it doesn’t stop there…”, he concluded.
