Chelsea loses with under-21 team and Maresca gives players time off
The ‘Blues’ main team was defeated by the youngsters from the academy, led by the Portuguese coach, by 0-3, which motivated the Italian’s decision
During the international break, Chelsea took the opportunity to play a training match (less than 90 minutes) with the under-21s, a team coached by Portuguese Filipe Coelho, in which players who were not training with their respective national teams participated.
However, that match did not go well for the main team, who were defeated, 0-3, against the youngsters from the academy. Donnell McNeilly, 19, scored two of the goals, and there were also some under-16s in the squad.
Enzo Maresca, frustrated with this poor performance, decided to give the squad a day off on March 27, last Thursday, in order to remind the players of the level required for this final stretch of the season, according to The Athletic.
Because they are out of the FA Cup , the Blues will not play this weekend and have more time to prepare for the reception to Tottenham for the Premier League , next Thursday.
