FIFA excludes Mexican team from Club World Cup

Pachuca issued an official statement this Friday stating that it had received a notification from FIFA stating that it is at risk of being excluded from the Club World Cup , which will be held next summer, as is Club León, given that the owner is the same, Jesús Martínez.

FIFA later announced that Club León had been chosen to leave the competition: «After evaluating all the documentation, the head of the FIFA Appeals Committee has decided that CF Pachuca and Club León have failed to meet the criteria for multi-club networks, as defined in article 10, paragraph 1 of the Regulations of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.»

“In accordance with Article 10, paragraph 4 of the Regulations of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™, FIFA has determined that Club León will be removed from the competition, with the admitted replacement club to be announced in due course,” the world football governing body wrote.

Club León, where former FC Porto and Real Madrid player James Rodríguez plays , was in group D with Flamengo , Espérance de Tunis and Chelsea .

FIFA is basing its decision on the competition’s regulations, which prohibit the participation of more than one team belonging to the same corporate group. The team that will replace the Mexican team is not yet known.
