Newcastle have not won a major domestic title for 70 years , since the 1954/55 FA Cup. They have never won the English League Cup, losing the 1975/76 and 2022/23 finals. They have not won the English Premier League title for almost a century. This could be the beginning of a new era.

This Newcastle team has two key players, both in midfield: Bruno Guimarães, the team captain, and Joelinton. Both played well against Liverpool, in defense and attack. Joelinton has been at Newcastle since the 2019/20 season, and Bruno Guimarães joined the club in 2021/22.

Today we couldn’t miss a goal from striker Isak, Newcastle’s top scorer this season with 22 goals in all competitions. He has scored three in this League Cup. The Swede now has four goals in six games against Liverpool. His goal at Wembley on Sunday was his eighth in 2024/25, assisted by Murphy.

Liverpool were the reigning champions of the English League Cup and remain the competition’s biggest winners, with 10 titles. But coach Arne Slot’s team was very lacking today at Wembley.
