PSG to change stadium

PSG are set to leave the Parc des Princes and move to a new, much larger and more distant stadium. According to several French media outlets, the decision was taken in Qatar by the club’s owners, Qatar Sports Investments, the country’s sovereign wealth fund.

According to Le Parisien , the announcement should be made in April and the most likely location to host the new home of the current club of Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Gonçalo Ramos is Massy, 30 kilometers north of the center of the French capital.

This location has the space to build a PSG city: in addition to the stadium, designed to hold around 90,000 people (making it the largest in the country, surpassing the Stade de France), the idea is to create a series of buildings and facilities around it, taking advantage of the planned extension of the metro line. The total project will cost around one billion euros.

The club attempted to purchase the Parc des Princes from Paris City Council (which owns the venue) for €38 million, a figure rejected by the mayor, Anne Hidalgo, who said the decision was too low considering the investment of “€200 to €300 million in the squad”. It remains to be seen what will happen to the concession contract for the stadium between the city council and the club, which is valid until 2043.
