Qualification for the 2026 World Cup: Algeria defeats Mozambique and leads Group G alone
The Mozambican team, the “Mambas”, suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat against Algeria in the sixth round of the African Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

At the end of the first half, Mozambique was already down 3-1, with Algeria demonstrating early superiority. The first goal came after just eight minutes, when Amoura took advantage of an error by Alfonso Amade when the ball was released, allowing Mahrez to recover, who helped with the accurate finish.
The “Mambas” responded in the 16th minute with a crossed shot from Geny Catamo, after a pass from Alfonso, forcing the opposing goalkeepers into a difficult defense. However, the Algerians extended their lead in the 24th minute, with Mandi scoring the second goal. Six minutes later, Amoura found the net again, scoring his second goal of the match.
Mozambique managed to reduce the deficit in the 40th minute, thanks to a goal from Geny Catamo, but Algeria maintained dominance and sealed the victory in the second half.
With this result, Algeria leads Group G alone with 15 points, while Mozambique remains in second place with 12 points.
