Samu called up to the Spanish squad to face the Netherlands

FC Porto forward Samu is on Spain ‘s list to face the Netherlands in the Nations League play-offs , with Real Madrid’s Raul Asencio as the main new addition. Samu made his debut for Spain in November, coming on at half-time in a match against Switzerland, also in the Nations League.

The tie starts at De Kuip, home of Feyenoord, and the second leg will be in Valencia, at Mestalla, on the 20th and 23rd.

On the list are former Sporting player Pedro Porro and former Benfica player Alex Grimaldo.

The federation remains sensitive to the tragedy that struck Valencia in November – in fact, the second leg will be played there -, in which a flash flood killed dozens of people in the province, and so the announcement by coach Luis de la Fuente was made on a bridge that became famous at the time, and renamed the Solidarity Bridge, as it was from there that many volunteers reached the most affected towns on foot to help with the clean-up.

In fact, it wasn’t even the national coach who announced the names, as he gave way to four players from local clubs to present the list of players called up for the double clash.

Jorge Greus, goalkeeper for Paiporta, David Serra, central defender for Unió Benetússer Favara, Mario García, midfielder for Unión Deportiva Aldaia and Jorge Monforte, forward for Catarroja were the protagonists who confirmed the 27 selected players.

Here are the candidates:

Goalkeepers: Unai Simón, Raya and Remiro

Defenders: Mingueza, Porro, Le Normand, Cubarsí, Asencio, Grimaldo and Cucurella.

Midfielders: Zubimendi, Casadó, Fabián, Merino, Baena and Pedri.

Forwards: Lamine, Nico Williams, Ferran, Pino, Olmo, Ayoze, Morata, Bryan Zaragoza, Samu, Oyarzabal.
