Transfer Market: Manchester City met with Real Madrid star’s father
Pep Guardiola’s team wants to strengthen the attack and targets one of the current European champion’s biggest names
Manchester City officials are said to have held a meeting with Rodrygo ‘s father to try to convince the Brazilian to move to the Citizens next season. The news was revealed on Spanish television programme El Chiringuito .
The meeting took place more than two weeks ago and the English side are said to have offered Rodrygo a higher salary than he currently earns. In addition, it is also reported that the Brazilian would be used on the left side of the attack, something that would be to his liking, but which is difficult to achieve at Real Madrid, due to Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé , who naturally occupy that area of the pitch.
For Pep Guardiola’s team, Rodrygo would be a major reinforcement to fill a role where Jack Grealish (two goals this season) and Jérémy Doku (six goals) have not been performing as well as they should. For comparison, Rodrygo has 14 goals and eight assists in all competitions this season.
Heavy investment
The deal looks set to be difficult for Manchester City, who, if they can convince the player, will then have to do the same with Real Madrid. Rodrygo has a contract with the Whites until 2028 and a release clause, according to the Spanish press, of one billion euros. At 24 years of age, the Brazilian is in his sixth consecutive season at Real Madrid, where he has already established himself as one of the most indispensable figures in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
In Spain, Rodrygo has already won 13 trophies, including three LaLiga titles and two UEFA Champions League titles .
