Xabi Alonso keeps his future a mystery

Xabi Alonso’s future remains shrouded in mystery. Contrary to what was anticipated by the Spanish press, the Bayer Leverkusen coach did not reveal in the press conference ahead of the home match against Bochum whether he will remain at the Bay Arena next season.
When asked about the future, Xabi Alonso did not lift the veil: «I am focused on this season. We are in an important phase and we do not want to speculate. We do not want to talk about anything other than football.»
The former Spanish midfielder stressed that he is only focused on Bayer ‘s fight for the German title and that he has no deadline to decide on the next step in his career.
After distancing himself from rumours last season that he would be on the bench at Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Xabi Alonso says that, a year on, he does not need to clarify his future: «The big difference is that there was something to decide back then, but now there isn’t.»
The Spanish coach stressed the importance of thinking game by game in the fight for the second German championship. With eight games remaining in the Bundesliga , Bayer Leverkusen is in second place, six points behind Bayern Munich.
