Farewell to the “Klassiker”

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund played an exciting derby this Saturday at the Allianz Arena for the 29th round of the 2024/25 Bundesliga . The final score was 2-2. This was the last “Klassiker” for attacking midfielder Thomas Müller . All goals came in the second half. Striker Beier opened the scoring early on with a header from a cross by Ryerson. Full-back Raphaël Guerreiro equalized in the 20th minute after a fine assist from Müller. Bayern turned the game around a few minutes later with a great individual play by striker Gnabry. However, Dortmund scored the second goal with defender Anton, on the rebound from Guirassy’s shot.

Müller’s last drink

Thomas Müller has announced that he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season . This was therefore his last derby against Borussia Dortmund. Over the course of 17 years as a professional, he has appeared in the Klassiker 29 times (all in a Bayern jersey), a record (along with Hummels). There were 16 wins, five draws and eight defeats for Müller, who scored eight goals in that clash.

Undefeated streak

Borussia Dortmund are now three games unbeaten against Bayern Munich. Those three most recent matches were in the Bundesliga. Dortmund have not gone this many games without defeat to their rivals since 2012. That year, they won 5-2 in the German Cup final, having won the previous four derbies (between 2010 and 2012).

Upcoming games

Bayern Munich will play again in the Bundesliga next Saturday, against Heidenheim, away from home. Before that, they will face Inter Milan in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Borussia Dortmund, in turn, will face Borussia Mönchengladbach in the next round, at the Westfalenstadion. In the middle of the week, they will face Barcelona in the Champions League.
