Salah rejected €500m Saudi loan to pursue Ballon d’Or dream at Liverpool
The Egyptian renewed his contract with the ‘Reds’, but before that he made a difficult decision, rejecting an astronomical offer from the Middle East

Mohamed Salah renewed his contract with Liverpool this Friday, extending his link with the Reds until 2027. But, to do so, he made a decision that many would consider unthinkable: he turned down an astronomical offer from Saudi Arabia, where he could have earned more than 500 million euros, to stay in England and fight for sporting goals at the highest level… with one goal in mind in particular.
According to the BBC , a move to the Middle East was on the table until recently, but the Egyptian, at the peak of his career, opted to stay at Anfield. The choice of the 32-year-old forward was not made for lack of options – the Saudi interest was real and financially tempting, especially considering he is one of the greatest icons of Arab football.
However, Salah put sporting ambitions above financial ones, signing a new two-year contract with the English club, which will keep him on Merseyside until 2027.
Having been with the Reds for eight seasons, the Egyptian wants more and among his goals is winning the most prestigious individual award in the world of football: the Ballon d’Or, which has eluded him despite his two appearances in the top 5 (2019 and 2022).
Those who follow his work believe that Salah still has at least three years left at the highest level, supported by an enviable physique and exemplary professionalism. In addition to his individual ambition, Salah intends to continue contributing to Liverpool ‘s success , namely in the fight for the 20th English championship title, in winning back the UEFA Champions League and in consolidating the club among the elite of European football.
The message is clear: Salah is not done with his story in European football and he is determined to make it even greater… preferably with a Ballon d’Or in his hands.
